Environment Variables

PATH and friends: how Windows finds your tools.

If a tool “is not recognized,” PATH is often the missing street.

Environment variables are named values Windows and apps share. PATH is the famous one: folders searched when you type a command.

$env:PATH -split ';'
[Environment]::GetEnvironmentVariable('PATH', 'User')

Prefer installing tools with winget or installers that update PATH for you. Edit user PATH carefully; machine PATH needs elevation.
