Today

The free recovery toolkit that stays on your phone when the night gets loud — clean day count, Hard Hour, urge tools, Meeting Atlas, anonymous Peer Chat, and living backgrounds that keep the screen from feeling like a clinic form.

Built for real rough days. Not treatment. Not a sponsor. Not a meeting. A notebook that fights for you between the moments when you can reach a person.

Sideload APK · debug signed · about 30–40 MB · empty public build · your notes never leave the device unless you export them

Free forever

No subscription. No account wall. No “premium crisis.”

Private by default

Notebook stays on the phone. Peer Chat is opt in only.

Built for 2 am

Huge targets. Hard Hour. 911 and 988 never hidden.

Feature list

What you get in 0.7.4

A recovery super app that keeps growing — without turning your journal into a product funnel.

Home doorway

Large clean day count, three second check in, Need help / Ride this out / Talk to peers / Just write. Pin orbs for the tools you actually use.

Hard Hour / SOS

One night screen for delay, urge surf, HALT, grounding, panic card, outreach, 911, and 988. Widget SOS. OLED friendly night UI.

Anonymous Peer Chat

Opt in rooms like Change my mind, Holding space, and Small wins. Guidelines gate. Report / block. Sticky Help / 988. Notebook stays local.

Urge toolkit

Urge timer, delay 15, playbook, urge recheck, almost used log, relapse protocol, aftercare checklist — shame free copy.

Calm body tools

Grounding 5-4-3-2-1, paced breathe, panic card, body scan, HALT, quotes, and a calm gallery when you need quiet images.

Meeting Atlas

Find rooms with filters, pins, louder last verified, travel verify nudge, and private meeting notes. Log what you attended.

People & outreach

Personal contacts with scripts, outreach ladder, sponsor call log, family drafts, boundary scripts — you tap, the phone dials or texts.

Recovery Library

Public links with source labels and honesty lines. Report a broken link. No pirated fellowship books hosted in the app.

Journal & mind

Free write, CBT thought record, prompt packs, intentions, triggers, values / why, custom check in questions, incognito journal.

Insight without shame

Constellation history, craving heatmap (Edmonton time), weekly lookback, end of day review, correlations that stay speculative.

Living backgrounds

Optimized rotating atmospheres on every page — recovery photography that changes so the app feels alive, not clinical.

Backup & privacy locks

Export JSON / plain text. Optional PhiKey notebook lock. Glance PIN, decoy PIN, quiet launcher alias, panic wipe, Help only mode.

Tool Finder

Type what you need — urge, people, calm, 988 — and jump. Need lanes organize hundreds of ideas into short useful stacks.

Practical life rails

Money saved, meds, appointments, housing notes, paths, survival kit, Future Me card, small wins, recovery timeline.

Accessibility

Large text, high contrast, dyslexia friendly font, simple mode, TalkBack minded crisis paths, 320px layout pass.

Stay honest

Powerful tool. Not a clinic.

Today will not diagnose you, sponsor you, or replace a meeting, counsellor, or doctor. If you are in danger call 911. If you want to die or hurt yourself call or text 988. Those numbers stay free and ungated in the app.

Install on Android in a minute

  1. Download the APK on your phone (Chrome is fine).
  2. Open the file. Android will warn it is not from Play Store — expected for a free sideload build.
  3. Allow this browser to install unknown apps, then install Today.
  4. Open the app, finish welcome setup, set your start date. This public build ships empty — nobody else’s notes.

If an older Today used a different signing key, uninstall that copy first. Prefer the web preview? Open phyllux.com/today/.

Who built this

David E. Sproule

Today is built in Edmonton, Alberta by David E. Sproule. He is creative director of Sproule Lit on phyllux.com, founder of Phyllux Technologies, and the maker of Novelmate Studio at novelmatestudio.com — local first writing tools for people who want honest craft.

He ships Today free because rough days deserve a toolkit that does not sell your journal. The same About screen inside the app names him, links these sites, and offers the coffee email below.

Keep it free

Buy the builder a coffee

Today is free on purpose. If it helps you get through a hard hour, a clean day, or a peer room when you needed company — you can send David a coffee. No paywall. No guilt. Just optional fuel.

Send an Interac e-Transfer to phibronotchi@gmail.com for coffee money, or whatever you want to send. That email is the transfer destination — not a tip jar app, not a subscription.

Put “Today coffee” in the transfer message if you like. Feature requests welcome. Bugs welcome louder.

Download it. Keep it. Grow with it.

Today is the app you open when the day is clean and when it is not. Carry the free APK. Tell a friend in recovery who needs a private toolkit. If you can spare a coffee, David will keep shipping.
