First pass from the workshop. Not the ending.
The air was crisp, the ground hard, and the sun a mere sliver in the sky. Alberta stood in her garden, the earth beneath her feet a cold, dark blanket. The winter garden seemed an unlikely place for life, but she knew better. Root vegetables were tough, resilient, and could thrive even in the coldest months. They were the unsung heroes of the winter garden, offering a bounty of nourishment when other plants withered and died. Alberta began by mixing a small handful of compost into the soil, the earthy aroma filling her nostrils.
