Opening sample
First pass from the workshop. Not the ending.
The door creaked open, and Jake stepped into the dim light of the convenience store. The flickering fluorescent tubes cast long, jagged shadows across the worn linoleum floor. He moved swiftly, his hands stained with the lingering scent of coffee. Her eyes never left the register. Leo, with his restless fingers tapping on the counter, moved to the back to restock the shelves. Hannah, the regular customer, leaned against the counter, her presence both a comfort and a disturbance. Jake grabbed a box of granola bars and placed them on the shelf, his gaze sweeping the store.
