Opening sample
First pass from the workshop. Not the ending.
The door creaked, its hinges protesting the intrusion. Jenna pushed it open, the air thick with the scent of ink and toner, a heavy perfume that clung to her like a second skin. She stepped into the dimly lit print shop, the fluorescent lights flickering erratically overhead, casting long, distorted shadows that seemed to dance on the walls. Rows of humming machines stretched out like a concrete forest, their blinking lights creating an eerie, mechanical heartbeat that underscored the solitude of the space. Jenna’s gaze swept over the screens at the control panel, each one a testament to the meticulous order she maintained.
