First pass from the workshop. Not the ending.
The morning air was a sharp bite, the kind that seared the back of Sam’s throat and left a chill that clung to his bones. He stood in the backyard, the November light filtering through the bare branches of the old oak, casting stark shadows on the overgrown garden. The ground was a matted mess of dead leaves and tangled vines, a chaotic mirror of the disarray that had once enveloped his life. His hands, bare and uncalloused, were a stark contrast to the bottles that had once filled them, now empty and devoid of the numbing solace they had provided.
