Opening sample
First pass from the workshop. Not the ending.
Claire stepped off the Edmonton bus, her breath visible in the cold air, a thin mist that quickly coalesced into tiny ice crystals. She wore a heavy coat, the fabric thick and scratchy against her arms, and her fingers fumbled with the buttons, trying to find warmth. Her eyes, tired but alert, scanned the nearly empty bus station. The few people left were in a hurry, their steps quick and purposeful, leaving behind a sense of the day’s ebb and flow. The scent of diesel mingled with the crisp air, a familiar smell that always seemed to linger in the city.
