Opening sample
First pass from the workshop. Not the ending.
The door groaned as Franklin Carter pushed it open, the cold air of winter biting at his cheeks. He stepped inside the community hall, the sound of his breath mingling with the distant echo of footsteps on the hallway floor. The air inside was thick with the scent of old varnish and lingering warmth, a stark contrast to the chill outside. Sunlight filtered through frosted windows, casting a golden hue over the worn carpet and well-loved furniture. Evelyn Thompson stood by the fireplace, her hands tracing the outlines of old, forgotten photos on the soot-covered mantle.
