First pass from the workshop. Not the ending.
The room was a warm cocoon against the December chill. Jack sat by the fireplace, the crackling of the old logs a steady rhythm. He wrapped his hands around a mug of coffee, the warmth seeping through his fingers. The scent of pine from the Christmas tree outside the living room window mingled with the faint aroma of the coffee, a small comfort in the cold. Outside, Edmonton was a pristine blanket of snow, the city hushed and deceptive in its calm. Jack’s gaze swept over the room, lingering on the framed photos of his childhood, him and Liam, laughing in the snow, their faces sun-kissed and innocent.
