Luna slid off the night bus. Her legs ached. The bus sighed, a worn seat groaning as the door closed behind her. She stepped onto the cracked sidewalk. Night air bit at her cheeks, smudged with faint makeup. Her hair, a dark tangle, framed her pale face. She felt lost. The night bus had been her lifeline, a rickety vessel carrying her through the darkness she’d made for herself. It had been a while since she’d seen daylight without a window between her and the world. She shivered, not just from the cold. Across the street, a small building beckoned. Its faded sign read, "The Red Door.
