First pass from the workshop. Not the ending.
The chill of the morning air clung to Margaret's fingers as she sipped her tea, the steam rising like tiny ghostly fingers into the quiet room. Edmonton's Long Thaw had settled in, a relentless freeze that made the city feel more like a winter that would never end. The coffee table in front of her held a letter, its edges curled slightly from the cold. Her hands trembled, not from the frost, but from the weight of anticipation. Margaret had always been a creature of routine, her days structured like a well-worn map. But today, the map was disheveled, the lines blurred.
