Opening sample

First pass from the workshop. Not the ending.

Edith's gaze swept the cluttered basement, a maze of forgotten treasures and dusty relics. The floorboards creaked under her feet, a hollow echo in the narrow space. The air clung to her, mingling with the faint scent of mothballs from stored linens. A small, grimy window let in a narrow shaft of light, casting dust motes that danced in the gloom. She had come here to find holiday decorations, but the cluttered state of the room seemed to symbolize the chaos and complexity of her memories. Her hands brushed against an old wooden trunk, its surface rough and worn.
